The Minister gives the green light to the North Jutland business lighthouse CO2vision

On Friday 9 September, Business Minister Simon Kollerup signed a national partnership agreement for CO2Vision. The partnership agreement gives the project the green light and paves the way for a green business adventure for North Jutland companies within the capture, use and storage of CO2.

With his signature on the partnership agreement during a visit to Hanstholm Havn, one of CO2Vision's test sites, Business Minister Simon Kollerup sends a clear signal that Northern Jutland must take the lead as a business beacon in the field of capturing, using and storing CO2.

- With the partnership agreement in hand, we are now taking an important step towards making North Jutland a frontrunner in CO2 capture. It will both be good for local jobs and growth in society, says the minister for business in the ministry's press release.

More than a business adventure
CO2Vision offers the North Jutland business community great, new opportunities and, by virtue of its growth potential, holds promising prospects for employment. In addition, the project helps put Denmark on the world map as a leader in CO2 capture and supports Denmark achieving climate neutrality by 2050 at the latest.

- Capture, use and storage of CO2 is one of the important climate solutions of the future. It is quite simply crucial that we succeed in this if we are to turn the climate challenge into a climate potential for Denmark, assesses Michael Lundgaard Thomsen, Managing Director at Aalborg Portland A/S, who is part of the consortium behind CO2Vision.

Building on a proud tradition
In its press release about the new partnership agreement, the Ministry of Business emphasizes that North Jutland is particularly well placed in terms of developing a green business adventure based on the capture, transport, use and storage of CO2. This is not least due to the great knowledge that already exists in the region, and which Aalborg University is continuously developing.

- In order to lift the green transition to a large, industrial scale, it is crucial to have new technologies and qualified labor who can develop and apply the technologies in practice. Aalborg University has been researching new green technologies for many years, and we train engineers who are ready to take on the task in Danish companies, says Rector Per Michael Johansen.

CO2Vision brings together partners such as Aalborg University, Green Hub Denmark, Erhvervshus Nordjylland, Aalborg Portland, Business Region North, Arbejdsmarkedkontor Midt/Nord and Energy Cluster Denmark.

- It is a strong consortium that is already in full swing with the effort, where the 11 North Jutland mayors and the chairman of the regional council as well as Erhvervshus Nordjylland's board follow the effort closely, and where knowledge institutions such as Aalborg University and the North Jutland companies are key players, explains Mogens C. Gade , chairman of Erhvervshus Nordjylland.

Facts about the partnership agreement
The purpose of the partnership agreement is to create a framework for strategic and coordinated development of the North Jutland business lighthouse in the short and long term. This applies, among other things, to:

– Work to ensure that the business lighthouse develops a Danish position of strength, which makes Denmark smarter, greener and richer, and whose international potential is realized by developing Danish export successes and attracting foreign investment.

– Formulate joint objectives for the further development of the business lighthouse.

– Address barriers to the commercial lighthouse's progress and new potentials.

– Look at the need to initiate additional initiatives that can contribute to developing the business lighthouse.

- Coordinate follow-up on Vækstteam Nordjylland's recommendations.

– Support coherence.

CO2Vision is financed by REACT-EU funds.
